Head Chef, Joe's on the Beach (Sunshine Coast)

Sunshine Coast,
Posted 6 hours ago
Description
We're a busy beachfront restaurant on Davis Bay in Sechelt, a ferry out of Vancouver, and we're after a head chef to run our kitchen. We cook West Coast food, and seafood is the heart of what we do. We want a chef who loves working with it as much as we do.

This is your kitchen to run. You lead the team, build the menus (after a few months of learning our brand and style) and the specials, and keep the line moving through service. Your biggest responsibilities: food cost, labour cost, and the quality of every plate that leaves the kitchen. Keep those in hand and you'll have plenty of freedom to express yourself within the brand.

The part we're most excited to hand over is events. Weddings, long-table dinners and catering keep growing for us, and that's where you get to show what you can do. You'd own them from the first idea to the last plate, and put your own stamp on the food, all inside our cooking style.

We run more than one room and we're growing, but this is not a franchise. It's our own brand, built our way, and there's real room to grow and expand with us as we open what comes next. The crew is a good one and the kitchen is a good place to work, and we'd count on you to keep it that way.

The pay is $70,000 to $80,000 a year depending on your experience, full time and salaried, year round. You're in the kitchen tip pool on top of that, which comes to around $3 to $4 an hour on shift and more when we cater an event. We offer extended health and dental, you get two weeks paid vacation in our quieter months, and there's a staff meal every shift plus our grocery program. After your first year we sit down, we will review how it went and we will provide further benefits based on how the year went and our growth streak.

We're on Davis Bay in Sechelt, on the Sunshine Coast. It's a Horseshoe Bay ferry from Vancouver, so you'd either live here already or be ready to make the move. Life on the Coast costs less than the city, housing most of all, and you trade the commute for the water. If you've wanted a reason to get out of Vancouver, this is a good one.

To apply, email your resume to hiring@joesrestaurants.ca and tell us more about you. We're hiring now and we'll move fast for the right person.

One thing before you write: you need to already be allowed to work in Canada, whether that's citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work permit. We can't sponsor one for this role right now, so please only apply if you can start legally.
