Morty is a 16-year-old male Hermann's tortoise. His current owner is undergoing some life changes that make it difficult to provide him with the care he needs, and so they want to rehome him to a good home. Morty has had some issues mistaking fingers for food or getting territorial, but otherwise he is content to wander and explore. He has recently been in to a vet for a beak trim but otherwise is in good health, though the vet did note mild pyramiding in his shell. With proper care a Hermann's tortoise can be expected to live up to 50 years, so this animal is definitely a long-term commitment.

He has been fed daily on a combination of romaine lettuce, arugula and a portion of strawberry, with super veggie supplement, as well as Fluker's tortoise diet. Vitamin supplements are given with meals. Calcium is especially important to a tortoise, so some other calcium rich foods that could be offered include collard greens, parsley, kelp, watercress, celery, and orange rind. Pesticide-free grass can provide roughage. Morty does not come with an enclosure, you will be required to have a proper one and send us proof of enclosure. A glass enclosure is not an appropriate housing for a tortoise as they do not understand the concept of glass. Heavy modifications would be required for one to be approved. A good PVC or wooden enclosure would be best! A Hermann needs a minimum of a 4 foot long by 3 foot wide enclosure, but larger is better! You will need to show proof of proper tube UVB lighting as well as a need to supply the right basking light. You will need a shallow food dish, water dish, supplements and any accessories such as a few hides, and decorations. Morty's adoption fee is $75.00.

We do have to note this animal has NOT been through DVRR's facility or quarantine. By applying to adopt you accept any and all responsibility for this animal if he does need to be vet checked.

Morty is located in Edmonton, Alberta and you will need to provide your own transportation to pick him up. All documentation must be filled out prior to anything to protect both parties and our animals.
