Great for a collector- Vintage Japanese Hand-Painted Ginger Jar with Lid and Stand
1960s and 1970s
I bought it in 1974 for $42.80 with the carved wood stand, and the Canadian taxes included.
Made in Japan, imported by Banowe Commercial Ltd., Toronto
Dark brown-black glazed body with chrysanthemum, butterfly, and bird decoration.
The dark "black" color you're seeing under bright light is likely a very deep mahogany brown glaze rather than true jet black. Many Japanese decorative ceramics from that era used these dark brown glazes that look black except under strong lighting.
Chrysanthemums
Butterflies
Flying birds
Meadow grasses
Gold stippled background
3-Gold trims
Base is black carved wood.
In an antique shop today this hand painted ginger jar with the stand is valued at $125 - $175 CAD in a retail antique shop.
$75-$125 CAD for a reasonably quick sale.
The condition is excellent and there are no chips, cracks, wear of any of the design. It has never been washed only dusted lightly since 1974.
I'm selling it for $90.00 with the original wood carved stand with it.
Sorry for the lighting and window showing in the reflection of my pictures lol.
