About Elk Electric

Elk Electric is a growing Calgary-based electrical contractor focused on residential and light commercial electrical work.

Our work includes custom homes, renovations, service work, troubleshooting, lighting, panel upgrades, electrical distribution, and general residential and commercial installations.

We also take on select AV and smart-home integration work as part of our projects.

We take pride in clean, professional workmanship and are looking for an experienced Journeyman Electrician who can become a reliable long-term member of our team.

Position

We are looking for a Journeyman Electrician who is confident working independently, takes pride in their workmanship, and has strong residential and commercial electrical knowledge.

The right candidate should be capable of taking a project from rough-in through finishing, troubleshooting electrical issues, reading plans, communicating professionally with customers and contractors, and helping keep projects organized and moving efficiently.

This position has room for increased responsibility and compensation for someone who proves they can perform at a high level.

Responsibilities:
-Residential and light commercial electrical installations
-Custom home and renovation rough-ins
-Electrical finishing and device installation
-Service calls and troubleshooting
-Panel installations, upgrades, and circuit additions
-Lighting, dimmers, controls, and specialty electrical systems
-Reading electrical drawings and specifications
-Identifying code issues and completing installations in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code
-Planning materials and completing work efficiently
-Working independently when required
-Supervising or working alongside apprentices
-Communicating professionally with homeowners, general contractors, inspectors, and other trades
-Maintaining a clean and organized jobsite
-Completing work to Elk Electric's quality standards

Qualifications
Required:
-Alberta Journeyman Electrician certification
-Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
-Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation
-Strong residential electrical experience
-Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems independently
-Ability to read plans and understand project scope
-Professional attitude and communication skills
-Strong attention to detail
-Ability to work efficiently without sacrificing workmanship
-Dependable and able to manage responsibilities without constant supervision

Assets:
-Custom home experience
-Commercial electrical experience
-Service and troubleshooting experience
-Experience supervising apprentices
-Experience with lighting control systems
-AV or smart-home integration experience
-Low-voltage or structured cabling experience
-Solar experience
-Strong knowledge of service upgrades and electrical distribution

Compensation:
-The position starts at $45.00 per hour during a 3-month probationary period.
-Following the probationary period, compensation will be reviewed and may increase up to $60.00 per hour depending on:
-Electrical knowledge and experience
-Quality of workmanship
-Productivity and efficiency
-Troubleshooting ability
-Ability to work independently
-Ability to manage jobs and apprentices
-Reliability and attendance
-Communication with customers and contractors
-Overall contribution to the company

The $60.00/hour rate is intended for an experienced, high-performing Journeyman who demonstrates the ability to take ownership of projects and consistently produce high-quality work.
