The Lachute Performance AK-2 is a custom-built, forged upgraded engine designed to handle much higher reliability, boost, and power than a stock factory Subaru WRX engine.
Key Differences: AK-2 vs. Stock WRX Engine
• Internal Components: Stock WRX engines use factory cast or weaker powdered-metal pistons and rods that can fail under high pressure or heavy track use. The AK-2 adds upgraded crankshaft bearings, forged pistons (for higher temperature and pressure tolerance), and forged connecting rods (to resist bending or deformation at high RPM and boost).
• Power Capacity: A stock WRX engine is near its reliability limit at or slightly above factory output or modest tunes. An AK-2 engine is rated to handle significantly higher output—supporting up to roughly 550 horsepower at the engine when paired with mods like an upgraded turbo
• Machining & Tolerances: Stock engines are mass-produced factory blocks. The AK-2 is precision-measured, bored, and assembled with tight, performance-oriented tolerances for track or aggressive sport driving.
