Two vintage Lion Head Copper and Brass Coal Scuttle Buckets featuring hand-painted cobalt blue Delft porcelain grips on swing handles. Rare, matching nesting set (one large, one small) in great cosmetic shape.

Each is crafted from copper with brass accents, (handles, embellished lion head bracket mounts, the pedestal bases), in a Dutch ‘helmet’ style with a wide lip and both back and top ‘Delft Porcelain’ grips.

The measurements for both solid copper pieces are shown in the images. In one family since the late 1970s.

The copper gleams and both are in excellent condition. The copper has a beautiful, warm lustre, and the brass bases sit completely flat. No holes on their bases and no cracks in the metals. The porcelain handles are pristine. The interior of the larger scuttle reveals an aged patina, weathered from use. (Please see images for exact condition details).

Although their original use was to store coal/ash indoors (very decorative!), they can be repurposed for décor vintage displays, plant holders (just put a pot inside) … lots of ideas on Google.

Offered for $175 CAD for the matching pair. Others’ ads and prices are shown in the last two images.

FYI - Placing lion heads on hearth accessories - much like lion-head door knockers - served as a symbolic guardian or a sign of an upscale, well-appointed home.
Several other solid copper pieces are available in my other ads.
