Winnipeg, Manitoba • Part-Time / Casual • $22/hour • 6–10 hours/week
ABOUT HAIRBRU
Hairbru is a textured hair salon and education brand committed to creating opportunities for newcomers and aspiring stylists to build practical skills, confidence and pathways into the beauty industry.
We are looking for a warm, reliable and patient Translator / Language Support Assistant to support participants in our Professional Training Program. This role will help ensure participants can understand instruction, participate fully in hands-on learning and feel confident communicating in a salon and classroom environment.
LANGUAGES
We are looking for someone who is fluent in English and one or more of the following:
• French
• Tigrinya
• Arabic
• Ukrainian
• Somali
• Swahili
Additional languages are an asset.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide verbal interpretation between instructors and participants during classes.
• Translate instructions, questions and explanations clearly and accurately.
• Help participants understand technical hair and salon terminology.
• Support participants during demonstrations and hands-on activities.
• Clarify instructions when participants need additional support.
• Encourage participants to ask questions and actively participate.
• Work closely with Hairbru instructors and the Program Coordinator.
• Help create a welcoming, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Fluent in English and one or more of the languages listed above.
• Patient, approachable and comfortable working with adult learners.
• A strong communicator who can explain information clearly.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on salon and classroom environment.
• Reliable and able to attend scheduled training sessions.
• Comfortable working with newcomers and people from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience in interpretation, education, community programming or newcomer services is an asset.
Professional interpretation experience is an asset but not required.
HOURS & COMPENSATION
6–10 hours per week at $22/hour.
Most hours will be scheduled on Thursdays during Hairbru's training program. Additional hours may occasionally be available depending on participant and program needs.
