One of the many dance-related items that Sacred Source will have for sale, this is a beautiful, classical art history drawing by local Kingston, Ontario artist Carol Brown. Rendered in rich, traditional sanguine (red chalk) on premium 8.5 x 11 art paper, this exquisite piece is titled at the bottom right as The Dancer 295 B.C. It's a masterful sketch of the iconic Veiled Dancer (historically known as the Baker Dancer)—the famous Hellenistic Greek bronze statuette dating from the late 3rd to early 2nd century B.C., which currently resides in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The sculpture originated in bustling, cosmopolitan, golden-age Alexandria, and depicts a combination of a mime and dancer, for which the ancient city was highly celebrated. The depiction of this intriguing veiled dancing performance is the right fit for a dancer's studio, art or classical historian's space, and suitable to any traditional decor.
