Bring timeless character to an indoor or outdoor space with this antique, hand-painted majolica wall basin set from the early 20th century. Its artisan-crafted decorative details evoke the elegance of a bygone era. I purchased the piece many years ago from 1812 Antiques in Grafton, ON and have displayed it outdoors during the summer months.

This circa 1920–1930 vintage majolica ceramic wall fountain, or lavabo, features vibrant hand-painted floral motifs and a stylized dolphin spout. Likely Italian and possibly from a renowned ceramic region such as Nove di Bassano, pieces like this were historically used as wall-mounted basins for handwashing. They typically included a water reservoir with a functional spigot—often brass or bronze—above a lower catch basin. This example has a crackle-glazed white background with vivid polychrome floral decoration, framed by an ornate sculptural dolphin or sea-creature design around the metal tap spout.

The ceramic basin and matching reservoir feature delicate floral motifs in rich, vibrant colours, with subtle age and an authentic patina. This three-piece set includes a catch basin that was damaged at some point in its history and repaired after breaking into three or four pieces. It would make a worthwhile restoration project, while still remaining an exceptionally beautiful and decorative piece that is nearly 100 years old.
