Heavy Duty Mechanic / Field Service Technician
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Schedule: 2 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off

About the Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic / Field Service Technician to support a fast-growing energy and digital infrastructure company based in Calgary.
This is a field-based opportunity for someone who is comfortable working independently, travelling throughout Alberta, and supporting a wide range of mechanical and power-generation equipment.
The role operates on a 2-week-on, 2-week-off rotation, with Calgary serving as the home base. During your rotation, you may travel to multiple sites across Alberta depending on operational requirements.
This is an independent contractor opportunity, so we are looking for someone who is self-employed and comfortable operating under their own business.
Key Responsibilities
Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and servicing of field equipment
Diagnose mechanical issues and complete preventative and corrective maintenance
Support reciprocating generators and gas engine generator equipment
Service and maintain turbine generators
Work with screw compressors and reciprocating compressors
Complete inspections and identify equipment deficiencies before they result in downtime
Perform repairs in both shop and field environments
Maintain accurate service and maintenance records
Coordinate with operations and site teams regarding equipment issues and required repairs
Travel throughout Alberta to support multiple operating locations
Work safely and independently in remote and industrial environments
Assist with equipment commissioning, start-up and troubleshooting as required
Qualifications
Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Millwright or equivalent mechanical experience preferred
Strong hands-on experience with industrial mechanical equipment
Experience with reciprocating generators and/or gas engine generators
Experience with turbine generators
Experience with screw compressors
Experience with reciprocating compressors
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
Comfortable working independently in the field
Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel extensively throughout Alberta
Strong commitment to safety
Ability to work a 2-week-on, 2-week-off rotation
Contractor Requirements
The successful individual will operate as an independent contractor through their own business.
Preference may be given to contractors who:
Have their own fully equipped service truck
Carry appropriate commercial insurance
Have their own tools and field equipment
Have experience working independently across multiple sites
Are comfortable managing their own business expenses and contractor obligations
Compensation will reflect the individual’s level of experience, qualifications, equipment expertise, and whether they provide their own service truck and tools.

You should be comfortable travelling, working independently, adapting quickly to changing priorities, and taking ownership of equipment issues from diagnosis through repair.
