Chef — Good Eats Cafe, Ottawa
Good Eats Cafe is looking for a talented and passionate Chef to join our team. We're a community-focused cafe known for fresh, seasonal, and thoughtfully prepared food, and we're looking for someone who shares our commitment to quality and hospitality.
About the Role
As Chef, you'll take the lead on daily kitchen operations, menu execution, and food quality, while helping shape the direction of our menu going forward. You'll work closely with our front-of-house team to ensure a consistently great experience for every guest.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, prepare, and present menu items to a high standard of quality and consistency
• Develop and refine seasonal menu items, specials, and daily features
• Manage kitchen inventory, ordering, and supplier relationships
• Maintain food safety and sanitation standards in line with local health regulations
• Train and supervise kitchen staff
• Monitor food costs and portion control to support budget goals
• Ensure a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment
• Collaborate with the owner on menu development and pricing
Qualifications
• Proven experience as a chef, sous chef, or senior line cook in a professional kitchen
• Culinary degree or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of food safety standards (Food Handler Certification required or willingness to obtain)
• Willingness to serve alcohol (Smart Serve Certification required or willingness to obtain)
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment
• Passion for fresh, local ingredients and creative menu development
• Flexible availability, including mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed
