This rosary was manufactured for the Great Jubilee of 2000, which was one of the largest pilgrimage events in modern Catholic history, drawing millions of people to Rome to walk through the Papal basilicas.

The Pilgrimage Significance
The Seven Pilgrim Churches: Since the 16th century, Roman pilgrims traditionally walked to seven specific churches. The Four Major Basilicas: St. Peter's, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and St. Paul Outside the Walls are the four Major Papal Basilicas. They form the mandatory core of that historic pilgrimage. During a Catholic Jubilee year, these four specific churches are the only ones in the world with "Holy Doors" opened by the Pope for pilgrims to receive a plenary indulgence. An Italian rosary featuring all four basilicas is intentionally designed as a tangible map, souvenir, or tool for this specific sacred journey.

The Roman Jubilee Pilgrimage is an ongoing Catholic sacred tradition that occurs at regular, fixed intervals every 25 Years: Since the year 1475, the Catholic Church has officially celebrated "Ordinary" Jubilees exactly every 25 years. Major Roman Jubilee pilgrimages have taken place in 1950, 1975, 2000, and most recently across 2024–2026 (the "Jubilee of Hope" ran from Dec 24, 2024, to Jan 6, 2026).

How the Pilgrimage Works...
A Jubilee Year begins when the Pope ceremonially unseals and opens the "Holy Doors" of the four major basilicas featured on this rosary. To earn a Jubilee plenary indulgence, a pilgrim must travel to Rome and prayerfully visit all four of those exact churches: St. Peter's, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and St. Paul Outside the Walls. At the end of the Jubilee year, the Holy Doors are bricked over and sealed until the next 25-year cycle.
