Experienced IB Teacher offering Tutoring in Math and Economics

Description
Need some help before your second year of the IB, or just hoping to get ahead of content?

In general, the best place for IB students to get help, especially for IAs, is from their schools and individual subject teachers, since each school has their own systems and your teachers are in charge of marking your IAs and predicted grades. Unfortunately, not all schools are created equal. If you do not feel fully supported by your school, then hopefully I can help.

Who I am:

I am experienced IB teacher who is moving into a new career working as a private tutor. I taught in an IB school for ten years, with experience teaching HL/SL Economics and HL/SL Math (AA). I also have given many students guidance on IB subject selection, as well as university/career advice. Finally, although it has undergone changes since I took it, I did complete IB Diploma in high school myself, so I have a reasonable understanding of the student perspective.

What I offer:

One-on-one or small group tutoring, done online (via Google Meet, Zoom, or Skype). I primarily offer teaching or revision of Math and Economics, although if you need someone to talk to about subjects, university, or general guidance, I can do that as well.

For Math and Economics, I offer a free trial lesson to get to know students, and determine the best format for helping them.

What I charge:

The base rate is $50 USD/hr for one-on-one tutoring. For small groups, the charge/student is reduced depending on the size of the group.

Interested students (or parents!) can DM me here, or email me at IBMathandEconTutor@gmail.com for further information or credentials.

How I can help in Math:

There are two main components to doing well in Math, especially at HL: knowledge, and speed. Naturally the primary goal is to understand the content of the course, and be able to apply it to different types of questions. But the secondary goal, given how the IB assesses math, is to get fast enough to complete questions within the allotted time, and have time to go back and check your work, since all students (as well as teachers) make careless errors. The key to getting the score you deserve is finding and correcting those errors on your own.

If you are having trouble understanding certain concepts, or want to get ahead of the syllabus, I can teach or review all parts of the syllabus for Math AA and Math AI.

If you want to get faster at math, the best thing to do is drill, doing questions under time constraints. Tutoring is not explicitly necessary to improve your speed. However, I can provide help or guidance on what kind of questions to focus on (especially if you are trying to improve your score to a 4 or 5), or go over exam skills like learning how to catch your own mistakes.

How I can help in Economics:

While it is tempting to memorize economics, the amount of content in the course is not the ideal way to approach IB economics. Rather, it is important to understand the logic of economic concepts, how one thing leads to another. It is also a good idea to practice writing out answers to IB-style questions. Even if you understand economic concepts in your head, that knowledge does not always flow out properly in your writing, especially under exam conditions.

If you are having trouble understanding certain concepts, or want to get ahead of the syllabus, I can teach or review all parts of the syllabus for Economics.

If you want practice with economics assessment, I can go over your writing, and offer advice on how to improve clarity, structure and how to improve the right content to appropriately answer IB-style questions.

How I can help with IAs:

If you want help with math or economics IAs, I will not write your IA for you, or tell you what you should write. What I can do is offer you guidance based on any ideas you might have, help guide you in avoiding common IA pitfalls, and ask leading questions so that you can understand for yourself what you are writing about, maintaining academic honesty along the way.
