ASSISTANT BAR MANAGER
The Buffalo Club – Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia
The Buffalo Club is looking for a reliable, personable, and experienced bartender to join our team as an Assistant Bar Manager.
This is a hands-on management position where you will work regular bartending shifts while working closely with our current Operation Manager to support the day-to-day operation of the bar.
We are looking for someone who is a team player, strong communicator, and positive leader who can take initiative while working collaboratively with the Operation Manager, staff, trustees,
members, and guests.
POSITION DETAILS
* 20–30 hours per week
* 3–5 shifts per week
* Days, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays
* Starting wage: $17.50–$18.50/hour, depending on experience
* Vacation and approved-absence relief for the Operation Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Bar & Customer Service
* Work regular bartending shifts and provide friendly, professional service.
* Handle cash, debit/credit transactions, opening and closing procedures.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming bar environment.
* Assist with inventory, ordering, receiving, stocking, and organization.
* Follow responsible alcohol service practices and Nova Scotia liquor regulations.
Management & Team Support
* Work closely with the Operation Manager on daily bar operations.
* Assist with staff scheduling, training, and day-to-day supervision.
* Support staff and help address routine workplace or customer concerns.
* Assist with events, promotions, and social media initiatives.
* Communicate operational, staffing, maintenance, or other concerns to the Operation Manager.
* Bring forward ideas that can improve the club, customer experience, and operations.
Operation Manager Relief
* Provide leadership and operational coverage when the Operation Manager is away.
* Help ensure staffing, cash handling, inventory, opening/closing, and daily operations continue smoothly.
* Act as the point of contact for routine operational matters when required.
* Provide a clear update to the Operation Manager upon their return.
WORKING WITH OUR ORGANIZATION
The Buffalo Club operates as part of a non-profit organization, with trustees and lodge members involved at an organizational level.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain positive, respectful, and professional relationships with the Operation Manager, staff, members, guests, trustees, lodge members, and volunteers.
Strong communication, discretion, professionalism, and teamwork are essential.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Previous bartending experience required.
*VLT experience is an asset
* Supervisory or management experience is an asset.
* Smart Serve certification, or willingness to obtain required certification.
*WHMIS Certification, or willingness to obtain required certification.
* Strong communication and customer service skills.
* Reliable, organized, and able to take initiative.
* Comfortable leading and supporting a team.
* Able to remain professional when handling challenging situations.
* Flexible availability for days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
* Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
