EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

South Fork Ranch is a well-established and growing cow-calf and stocker operation located along the US border in the Souris River Valley. We are seeking a dedicated, experienced Ranch foreman to join our team near Carnduff/Oxbow Saskatchewan. This is a full-time, year-round position suited to a self-motivated individual with a proven background in cattle ranching — someone who shows up, works hard, and takes pride in the job. The role centers on day-to-day cattle care and management, with the opportunity for equine work available to those with the skills and interest.
The operation also has an expanding ranch & rope horse development program, creating a meaningful opportunity for the right candidate to be involved, learn, and advance alongside the program. Interest or experience with horses is welcomed and would be considered an asset; however, it is not a requirement for the Ranch Foreman position. Our priority is finding the right person for the cattle and ranch responsibilities, with the horse program available as an added opportunity for those who are interested.
Duties and responsibilities
• Daily livestock care: feed, health & bedding
• Assist with gathering, weaning, branding, shipping and all related livestock duties on a seasonal basis
• Monitor and maintain remote pasture & winter water systems
• Transportation: haul cattle, feed and related materials
• Fence maintenance, construction and repair
• Work independently as well alongside owners daily completing ranch tasks
• Equipment maintenance: grease, change oil, wash, service etc.
• Seasonal calving duties- tag, calving assistance, barn cleaning, Calf processing
• Oversee and direct seasonal employees (Summer students and interns)
• Maintain production records (equipment and cattle) and report to ownership
• Assist in yard maintenance and construction projects
• Responsibilities related to the South Fork Ranch horse program will include assisting with feeding and general care of horses, supporting training activities, and maintaining the arena and associated equipment. Also, participate and assist in Heel-o-matic and live cattle rope training
• Assist with Field work: seed, fertilize, spray, harrow, cultivate, swath, silage (modern equipment gps enabled)

Qualifications
All the following are non-negotiable requirements for this position:
• Minimum 2–3 years of verifiable, hands-on cattle ranching experience — cow-calf, backgrounding, or feedlot operations
• Solid working knowledge of cattle health, nutrition, and husbandry practices
• Calving experience — must be able to work independently through calving season, including after-hours
• Ability to operate farm equipment safely and competently (tractors, loaders, ATVs, silage wagon, bale shredder, etc.)
• Physical fitness and demonstrated ability to perform demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions, including Saskatchewan winters
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctual
• Valid driver's licence — Class 5 minimum
Compensation
• Starting wage: Hourly $25-33 (based on experience and a total compensation package)
o Valid class 1 holder will be eligible for higher hourly wage
• Horse allowance
o While employed, you will be permitted to keep 1 personal horses at South Fork Ranch for use during work activities and training. All feed and basic care expenses for this horse will be covered by the ranch. While here, your horse will gain meaningful value through seasonal riding, exposure, and development alongside our program horses. You’re welcome to after hours arena roping and riding practice alongside the rest of the South Fork members at your leisure.

• Further education
o If desired, South Fork Ranch would sponsor an annual education course in the relevant fields at a reasonable cost
 Some examples may include Cow/calf management seminars, Grazing courses, Western Canadian Feedlot Management school, Agribition, Sask Horse Exhibition, ranch tours etc. - 1 course/trip annually

• After a successful probationary period, the right candidate will have the opportunity to run a herd of personal cows alongside the South Fork Ranch herd. As part of the overall compensation package, the ranch would cover approved expenses related to building and growing the candidate’s own cow herd
• Beef allowance (reviewed semi annually after 6 month probationary period)

Flexible work schedule
• Work hours will vary with the season and daily ranch needs. During winter months, the typical start time is 8:00 AM, and during summer months the typical start time is 7:00 AM. You will receive at least every other weekend off, unless urgent livestock or weather related situations require additional support
• Personal time away for holidays, family commitments, or other important matters will be accommodated through clear communication and reasonable advance planning. South Fork is committed to supporting a healthy balance between work responsibilities and personal obligations
• While the owners are away during some of the winter months, uninterrupted coverage of ranch operations will be required. You will be responsible for working through this period. Efforts will be made to secure relief assistance, but availability cannot be guaranteed

The Ranch is located along the US border south of Oxbow and Carnduff. These are welcoming southeast Saskatchewan communities with a strong rural feel and access to many practical amenities both in town and in the surrounding area. For a family considering the move, the community offers local schooling through Oxbow Prairie Horizons School and Carnduff Education Complex, along with nearby towns that provide additional services, activities, shopping, recreation, and support. It is a comfortable place to put down roots while still being connected to the larger surrounding ranching and agricultural community.
