Onkyo TA-2040 Cassette Deck – Silver, Japan, For Parts/Repair
Description
Onkyo TA-2040 Stereo Cassette Deck – Silver, Made in Japan, Sold As-Is for Parts or Repair
A 1980 Japanese-built Onkyo cassette deck with multiple faults, offered as-is for parts or repair, with no warranty implied. It is not economic for us to repair to the standard we would want to sell it at — but that is a commercial judgement about our own bench rates, not a verdict on the deck.
The TA-2040 is a two-head front-loading deck with a sendust record/playback head, full-logic soft-touch transport, FG-servo DC motor, Dolby B, fluorescent level display and auto-stop. Handles normal, chrome and metal tape.
For a hobbyist with time and a soldering iron, that arithmetic is completely different, and this is a deck worth having a go at. Failing that it is a genuinely useful donor: the silver faceplate, the knobs, the transport assembly, the heads and the display are all worth having if you are keeping another Onkyo of the period alive, and a working deck of this vintage costs many times more than the parts inside this one.
