Description
1955 Studebaker Champion 2 door coupe
Built in Hamilton Ontario

Looking for someone to help with transmission and make it driveable. Details on all work done below:

Studebaker details

• It came with a flat head 6 cylinder with 3 on the tree
• In the 80’s a family friend put a 194 chev with 3 speed non-synchro first gear, I believe it was from a Chevy 2
• The car came with a Dana 25 410 gear ratio

• The problem with the car was in 3rd gear at 60km and we were doing 2000 rpm
• If you got on the highway you are close to 4000 at 120km
• The car was always ruining hot
• The rad had a lot of sludge, which I flushed out and it runs cool now

• I replaced the 194 with a 250 6 cylinder from a 1984 C10
• The head was from a 1972 C10
• The head has new seals and valves were lapped
• Used the old carb that was rebuilt and manifold
• The fly wheel is a 153 teeth and the clutch is a 10 inch with 8 spline
• The transmission is a T5 from a s10 pick up ( 5 speed) I think it was 1991
• 5th gear 0.73 to 1
• Now at 100 KM around 1900 rpm
• 120 km around 2200 rmp

• I installed a tail shaft from an Astro van to give me a better shifter location and a speedometer

• The input shaft for the transmission is from a jeep, need the jeep input shaft because it is 8 spline

• Only needed to extent the spline a bit and cut a bit off the length of the pilot shaft

• I also shorted the drive shaft by 3 inches

• The T 5 is wider that the 3 speed, had the pivot mounted modified

• I had issues of the pivot bracket braking several times

• Went with a cable instead of linkage. It was great for a month or so but now the clutch will not disengaged

• Cable is from a 1993 Suzuki sidekick

• Not sure issues with release bearing

• Binding on spline or issues with clutch fork

• Have it on Jack stands ready to drop transmission for over a year

Things done with car
• all shocks
• All brakes, wheel cylinders, spring, flex hoses
• Wheel bearings
• The front wheel bearings are the same used on a Volvo 544
• I was hot rodding when I put the 5 speed in
• I could chirp the tires in 3 Rd
• I did a burn out in first and broke the Spider gears is the rear end
• I called up a contact I made from the Hamilton Studebaker and picked up a replacement
• Rebuilt it with new seals and bearing
• The spec on the rear end is a DANA 44 with a 355 posi
• Also did plug wires and filter
• I brought digital distribution and wires that I did not get rid of old pints system
• Also have a spare fuel pump
• Have a parts book from 1955

• The car was a 6 volt system from the factory

• Now 12 volts so most gauges to not work

• The frame is in good shape No soft spots

• The floor has been patched in the past

• The paint is fair looks good 20 feet away

Have a number of pics and vis showing running. Send me a text, 204-229-0041
