Restaurant servers are the primary point of contact between diners and the establishment, guiding the guest's dining experience from start to finish. Key duties include greeting guests, detailing menu items, taking orders via Point of Sale (POS) systems, delivering food, and processing payments while ensuring high customer satisfaction.
Shift Hours: Shifts generally span 6 to 8 hours and routinely include evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet peak dining times.
Core Responsibilities
Table Management: Welcome guests, present menus, and explain daily specials.
Order Taking & Recommendations: Answer dietary/allergen questions, make food and wine pairings, and accurately input orders into the restaurant's POS system.
Order Delivery: Transport food and beverages safely from the kitchen and bar to the dining tables.
Guest Service: Anticipate customer needs, routinely check in on tables, and promptly resolve any complaints or issues.
Payment Processing: Deliver the final check, process cash or credit card transactions, and return exact change or receipts to guests.
Cleaning & Setup: Clear dirty dishes, sanitize tables between seatings, set tables with proper tableware, and perform opening/closing sidework (e.g., restocking condiments).
Requirements & Interpersonal Skills
Physical Stamina: The job requires standing and walking for the duration of the shift, as well as lifting moderate weights (e.g., carrying loaded serving trays).
Technical Requirements: Servers must adhere to local health and safety standards. Having a Smart Serve Ontario Certification is an added benefit.
Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication, a friendly and professional demeanor, and the ability to multitask effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
