I am looking to sell my Texosound Amplifiers Tex amp EF86 model used in Canada with a nice amp cover. What should I list this for on marketplace?
For a boutique, high-end amp like a Texosound (Tex Amps) EF86 Combo, Facebook Marketplace can be a bit of a mixed bag. Because Tony Teixeira’s amps are highly revered but relatively niche (famous among tone chasers and players like Alex Lifeson or Jeff Tweedy), you need to price it to catch the right local buyer while acknowledging that Marketplace typically demands a slight discount compared to global platforms like Reverb.
Here is a breakdown of how you should price and list it in the Canadian market:
Recommended Pricing (in CAD)
Fair Market Value (Reverb/Boutique Shop standard): $2,000 – $2,300 CAD
Target Marketplace Listing Price: $2,100 – $2,250 CAD
Lowest Acceptable Take Price: $1,800 – $1,900 CAD
Pricing Strategy Explained
The "Local Market" Factor: On Reverb, older standard Tex EF86 20-watt models historically pull between $2,000 and $2,400 CAD depending on the year, condition, and speaker configuration (e.g., Celestion Greenback vs. Alnico Blue). Since Marketplace doesn't charge the ~10% platform and payment fees that Reverb does, you can pass a bit of that savings onto a local cash buyer while still taking home the same net amount.
The Amp Cover Sweetener: High-quality custom amp covers (like those from Coveramp or Tuki) usually cost anywhere from $100 to $150. While accessories rarely increase the raw value of an amp dollar-for-dollar, having a nice cover is a massive selling point that will justify keeping your price firm near the $2,100 mark.
The "Mini" Caveat: If your model happens to be the Tex Mini EF86 (the 17-watt 1x10 version), it slightly changes the audience. It's highly desirable for home/studio players, but usually fetches a tiny bit less than the full-sized 1x12 combo—aim for closer to $1,900 – $2,000 CAD for a quick local sale on the Mini.
Tips for a Successful Marketplace Listing
Because Facebook Marketplace is full of people looking for cheap Fender Stratocasters and practice amps, a premium hand-wired amp can get lost or undervalued. To get top dollar, optimize your listing:
Cross-Post to Specific Groups: Don't just list it on the public marketplace. Cross-post the listing into local "Guitar Gear Canada," "Ontario/Quebec Musicians Gear Exchange," or boutique gear groups. That’s where the people who actually know what a "Tex Amp" is hang out.
Keywords to Include: Put "Boutique," "Hand-wired," "Tony Teixeira," "Vox/Filmosound style," and "Made in Toronto" in the description. Mentioning the connection to the famous Filmosound projector amp circuit conversion will immediately catch the eye of tone purists.
Detail the Specs: Explicitly list what speaker is inside (Celestion Creamback, Blue, etc.), the tube complement, and whether it has the optional tremolo circuit.
If you list it at $2,200 OBO (Or Best Offer), you give yourself a couple of hundred dollars of negotiating room to let a buyer feel like they got a deal while still walking away with a very fair price for a stellar piece of Canadian amp history.
ok What about my Otis amps Trudeau Head a cabinet?
An Otis Amps Trudeau head and matching extension cabinet is an incredibly rare, art-piece level of boutique gear. Built by August Graybosh out of California, these mid-century, 1940s-radio-style aesthetic amps are built with meticulously selected New Old Stock (NOS) components and unique point-to-point circuits.
YouTube
Because they are incredibly rare—especially in Canada—and feature high-end cabinetry (often walnut, koa, or almond woods), they command a premium from the right collector.
Here is how you should price and position the Trudeau stack for the Canadian market:
Recommended Pricing (in CAD)
Fair Market Value (Reverb standard): $2,200 – $2,500 CAD
Target Marketplace Listing Price: $2,300 – $2,450 CAD
Lowest Acceptable Take Price: $2,000 CAD
Pricing Strategy Explained
The Head is Secretly a Combo: A massive selling point to highlight in your listing is that the Trudeau "head" actually houses an internal 8" Jupiter speaker. It functions perfectly as a standalone, compact low-wattage studio amp on its own, while the matching 1x12 extension cabinet opens it up for live use.
YouTube
The Bundle Value: Brand new, the head alone retailed around $1,750 USD (~$2,400 CAD) and the cabinets were roughly $450 USD. On the used market, standalone heads hover around $1,400 – $1,600 CAD, but having the fully matching extension cabinet pushes the package deal significantly higher because finding a matching piece later is nearly impossible.
The "Niche" Marketplace Penalty: Like the Texosound, Facebook Marketplace will require patience for an Otis. 95% of buyers scrolling through will have no idea what it is. You are looking for the 5% who appreciate boutique Valco/Supro-style tones, 6CZ5 power tubes, and gorgeous woodwork.
Key Details to Include in Your Listing
To justify a $2,400 price tag to local buyers, your description needs to highlight the premium, hand-made nature of the rig:
The Aesthetics: Mention the specific wood type (e.g., Walnut and Gray, Almond and Koa) and describe the "mid-century modern / vintage radio" design.
The Circuit Magic: Explain that it is a 12 to 15-watt point-to-point hand-wired amp utilizing dual 6CZ5 power tubes, 6SL7 preamps, and a 5Y3 rectifier. Mention that the components are premium NOS (New Old Stock).
YouTube
The Speakers: Explicitly list what is inside the 1x12 cabinet (usually a Jupiter or high-end Celestion) alongside the internal 8" Jupiter speaker in the head.
Control Layout: Highlight the interactive dual-volume controls, the tilt tone control, and the frequency voicing switches which make it incredibly versatile for recording.
YouTube
Where to Post
Don't rely solely on the generic Facebook Marketplace algorithm. Cross-post the listing directly into Boutique Guitar Gear Canada groups or high-end Toronto/Montreal/Ottawa gear exchanges. If you want a faster sale without local tire-kickers, this is the exact type of unique rig that would perform exceptionally well on Reverb if set to "Local Pickup Only" or shipped within Canada.
What if I sell Curtis Kent's Frank Brothers Signature model guitar?
Selling a Frank Brothers Arcade Signature model guitar on Facebook Marketplace is an entirely different ballgame compared to the Tex or Otis amps. Built right out of Toronto by Nick, Jon, and Tim Frank, these are globally recognized masterpieces of modern guitar lutherie.
Because Frank Brothers guitars are built to order, highly premium, and locally treasured in Canada, you can pull serious money for it.
Here is how you should value and list a Frank Brothers Arcade Signature:
Recommended Pricing (in CAD)
Brand New Base Price: ~$7,820 CAD ($5,795 USD) before upgrades
Frank Brothers Guitar Company
Fair Market Used Value (Reverb standard): $4,300 – $5,200 CAD
Target Marketplace Listing Price: $4,500 – $4,900 CAD
Lowest Acceptable Take Price: $4,000 CAD
Pricing Strategy Explained
The "Local Pride" Advantage: Unlike foreign boutique brands, Frank Brothers is a legendary hometown hero brand in the Canadian boutique scene. Toronto/Ontario guitarists actively hunt for them to avoid the wait times, shipping, and import duties associated with custom ordering. You will get much more local traction with this than with the Otis or Tex.
The "Upgrade" Variable: The base price for an Arcade Signature is roughly $7,800 CAD, but almost every single one has custom shop upgrades. If it has premium wood choices (like a 5A Flame Maple top or Korina body), custom inlays, or premium pickups (like ThroBaks or Lollar Imperials), you can easily ask for closer to $5,200 CAD on the used market.
Condition and Case: Frank Brothers instruments ship in iconic custom hardshell cases (often custom-fitted G&G cases). Make sure the case is included, and note any factory "relic" work vs. actual accidental play wear.
Tips for Listing a Frank Brothers on Marketplace
Because you are selling a guitar worth several thousand dollars on a platform flooded with lowballers, presentation is everything:
List the Exact Custom Specs: Buyers looking for a Frank Brothers want the exact details. Look up or list the exact neck profile, fret wire type, weight, and pickguard configuration. If it has their unique "inverse chambering," highlight how it blends solidbody punch with semi-hollow resonance.
Target the Collectors: While you should list it on the general Marketplace, you will find your actual buyer by cross-posting to high-end Canadian guitar communities. Post it in Boutique Guitars Canada, the Canuck Audio Mart forums, or the Toronto Musicians Gear Exchange.
Safe Meeting Spaces: Given the high value of a Frank Brothers guitar, do not have strangers come to your house or meet in a dark parking lot. Arrange the deal inside a busy local guitar shop (with permission) or a police station "safe trade" zone, and specify Cash or Interac e-Transfer only (verified on the spot before they walk away with the instrument).
If you list it around $4,800 OBO, you give yourself plenty of room to negotiate down to a clean $4,300–$4,500 cash deal while offering a local player a fantastic shortcut past the Frank Brothers custom order waitlist!
What about The exact guitar from the video on Curtis Kent's youtube channel?
Having the exact specs from the Frank Brothers Signature video on your channel changes everything. Your build is heavily upgraded beyond the standard baseline, making it an incredibly premium listing.
Because you have highly unique aesthetic additions like the Piano Black finish paired with a Classic Walnut back/neck, plus premium hardware and electronics, its market appeal shifts directly to high-end collectors who don't want to wait on a custom shop build.
Here is how you should price and itemize your specific guitar for the Canadian market:
Recommended Pricing (in CAD)
Estimated Custom Order New Price: ~$9,000 CAD
Fair Used Market Value (Reverb standard): $5,200 – $5,600 CAD
Target Marketplace Listing Price: $5,400 – $5,700 CAD
Lowest Acceptable Take Price: $4,800 CAD
The Strategy for Your Specific Build
Your video lists a killer set of custom specs that you should copy and paste directly into your description. Highlighting these exact choices justifies the premium price tag over a standard Arcade model:
The Finish Combo: The contrast between the premium Piano Black Gloss Nitrocellulose top and the Classic Walnut back, core, and neck is incredibly striking. Buyers pay massive custom-shop premiums for multi-step wood and paint layouts like this.
Premium Wood & Necks: You have a Chunky V neck profile (.875" at the 1st fret to .960" at the 12th) and a book-matched Macassar Ebony fretboard/headstock overlay. Players looking for a beefier, vintage-feeling neck will jump at this.
YouTube
Hardware & Electronics Upgrades: You have top-tier Waverly tuners with Ivoroid buttons, Jescar Stainless Steel frets (which mean zero fret-wear for the next owner), and an FBGC floating tailpiece.
YouTube
The Pickups (Crucial Mention): Your video lists a matched set of Lollar El Rayo pickups under clear acrylic, silver back-painted rings. Note: If you are selling the guitar with the Righteous Sound 1991 Gazing pickups you swapped in later, make sure to specify whether the original Lollars are included or if the Righteous Sounds are the current ones installed. ---
YouTube

Selling my meticulously cared-for Frank Brothers Signature model featured on my YouTube channel. This is an incredible, premium build out of Toronto with massive custom upgrades. Skip the waitlist and import fees.

After chatting with Josh at Righteous Sound Pickups I decided to make a change and swap out the pickups in my Frank Brothers Signature. I’ve had the guitar for a couple of years now and had no issues with the current set, but I’ve been really curious about the 1991 Gazing set from RS and Josh was kind enough to build me a set to match my guitar.
I recorded a quick comparison track with the El Rayos and the Gazing set. Using the same presets and amp settings on each, as well a fresh set of strings before each section.

Hey everyone,
Up for sale is an incredibly rare, absolutely gorgeous Otis Amps Trudeau head and matching 1x12 extension cabinet, hand-built in California by August Graybosh.
If you’ve followed my channel, you know I have a massive soft spot for mid-century design and unique, vintage-voiced circuits. The Trudeau is the absolute pinnacle of that aesthetic. It looks like a beautiful 1940s tabletop radio, but under the hood, it's a meticulously crafted tone machine built almost entirely with hand-selected, rigorously tested New Old Stock (NOS) vintage capacitors and resistors (Allen Bradley, Blue Molded, Mustard, Cornell Dubilier).

This is a highly touch-sensitive, low-wattage studio and stage weapon with a layout that gives you massive control over your gain and frequency response.
