About the artist:
Anita Elizabeth Kertzer is an Ottawa-born painter and sculptor who studied at the Ottawa School of Art, the Banff School of Fine Arts, and the Ramon Froman School of Art in Texas. She also studied sculpture with Ottawa artist and teacher Victor Tolgesy.
Her work, primarily portraits and still lifes in oil and pastel, as well as sculpture, created in her studios in Ottawa and Long Key, Florida, has been exhibited across North America as well as in Paris and London. She has been widely recognized for her contributions to the pastel medium and served as President of the Pastel Society of Canada, an organization dedicated to promoting pastel artists and the medium for over 40 years.
Kertzer has received more than one hundred awards internationally, including honours from the Pastel Society of France, the Pastel Society of America, the Pastel Society of Great Britain, the Federation of Canadian Artists, and the Society of Canadian Artists. She was also presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Her commissioned portrait of Lloyd Francis, former Speaker of the House of Commons, is held in the Parliamentary Library, and her portrait of Lester B. Pearson is part of the Parliamentary Portrait Gallery.
Her work is also held in private and corporate collections worldwide, and she is listed in Who’s Who in American Art and featured in numerous publications, including International Artists, Best of Canadian Pastels, Art Impressions, and Paris Revue.
