Safety & Compliance Director
Description
Our client is currently looking for Safety and Compliance Director.
This position is responsible for managing all the Safety and Compliance department functions in a transportation company to ensure processes and records, satisfy compliance, achieve efficiency and speak to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
1. Accident and Incident Investigation and prevention
Manage investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses to mitigate damages and exposure.
Manage claims to ensure timely and proper closure; monitor adjuster activity to keep costs to a minimum.
Stay abreast of new methods / best practices to reduce risk and apply or propose when suitable to our operation
2. Training Responsibilities
Assess relevant training needs for safety staff and drivers
Develop and source assessment and training tools and techniques that speak to risk reduction, accident prevention and safe behavior
Ongoing development of orientation and handbook material in relation to department objectives and Operational needs.
Plan and deliver training course personally where necessary to augment that which is provided internally by others.
Promote safety using a variety of media methods (video / bulletins)
3. Compliance and Legal
Ensure Logs compliance is being managed daily and any all regulatory violations are investigated for root cause and corrective action.
Monitor trends of violations to propose initiatives and or changes to prevent future occurrences and overall scores are in good standing.
Keep abreast of regulations for various jurisdiction - research and provide direction with regard to compliance.
Provide expert technical advice, coaching and guidance to management and employees on safety, compliance and best practices.
Work with Operations to ensure successful implementation of electronic log monitoring and develop effect process for managing compliance.
Oversees the administration of record keeping for all safety and compliance matters (OSHA, FMCSA driver qualification files, etc.)
Ensure department processes and records satisfy compliance for insurers and governing bodies (Captive, C-TPAT, PIP, CSA, CVOR, ACE, D&A, etc.) and Corporate due diligence.
Educate employees on the Domestic and FMCSA’s CSA safety program, monitor the company’s compliance within its scoring system (BASIC), and report the company’s results to management
Develop audit schedules and procedures to ensure fleet compliance and to identify deficiencies and take action by proposing and implementing solutions to rectify non-compliant behaviors.
Periodically conduct regulatory and procedural audits
4. General Management
Conduct regular employee evaluations in relation to dept. objectives
Ensure reporting departments expenses are necessary, proportionate and competitive
Maintain lean yet functional inventories of driver and dept. supplies
Annual licensing for all vehicles/ permit renewals and special permits
Conduct driver orientation
Requirement:
Must have minimum of 2 years of management experience in the transport industry
Ease with computer and safety related software
Strong negotiating skills
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Resolution of problems and take Initiatives
Able to develop and implement projects and systems
Work Environment:
Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Experience:
Management: 2 years (preferred)
Safety and compliance in a transport company: 1 year
Location: Kitchener
$60,000 to $65,000 a year to start
This is a direct hire and permanent opportunity.
