Heavy Duty Mechanic - Northern Saskatchewan

Role Summary - We’re seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic who isn’t afraid to put in long hours to perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy equipment and large diesel vehicles in remote northern work environments. The successful candidate will work on-site at various remote project locations, in potentially challenging weather, and may be required to travel or stay at camp for multi-week rotations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment and diesel engines (haul trucks, excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, skid steers, service trucks, etc.).
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, and test runs.
- Complete hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and brake system repairs.
- Fabricate, replace, and install parts as required; perform welding and basic fabrication tasks.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and service reports.
- Ensure tools, parts, and mobile shop equipment are organized and maintained.
- Assist with off-site recovery, equipment towing, and emergency repairs as needed.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, parts suppliers, and site personnel.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Journeyperson certificate or equivalent diploma/technical training in Heavy Duty Mechanics / Diesel Mechanics (preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience repairing heavy equipment and large diesel vehicles; experience in remote/industrial sites is an asset.
- Strong diagnostics and problem-solving skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Welding skills and fabrication experience are an asset.
- Valid Class 5/1 driver’s licence (with air endorsement or ability to obtain)
- Physically fit and able to work in extreme weather conditions and lift heavy parts/tools.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team; strong communication and time-management skills.
Working Conditions:
Remote environment
Exposure to dust, noise, diesel fumes, and heavy equipment
Overtime, shift work, weekend or emergency call-out may be required.
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive wage depending on experience
Travel, camp accommodation, and meals provided while on rotation (if applicable).
Overtime pay, per diem, and travel allowances where applicable.
