Community Support Worker
We are seeking an outgoing and positive female to support a 26-year-old woman with an intellectual disability. This part-time role focuses on helping her explore her passions, providing her with support at work, building friendships and helping her to take part in community life. The ideal candidate will share an interest in music/dance/hair/fashion/makeup/cooking/physical fitness/creative arts/books.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Provide support at various volunteer and employment positions
• Provide transportation to work and community activities
• Research, organize and facilitate opportunities to join local clubs, groups and social activities that match her interests
• Bridge connections and relationships in her communities of interest and in her geographical community of West Hills/Signal Hill
The ideal candidate will possess:
• Excellent coaching skills – knowledge of and ability to demonstrate and support the development of skills – interpersonal and practical
• The ability to work independently in unstructured environments and to employ effective time management skills. Punctuality and dependability are necessary.
• Be ready and able to deal with unpredictable situations
• Some flexibility required; typical shifts would be Tuesday 10:30-5:00, Thursday 1:30-9:30pm & Friday 10:30-5:00
• Knowledge of community resources available to support her participation and inclusion within her community
• A valid Class 5 driver’s license; access to a reliable vehicle and applicable insurance
• First Aid and CPR certification
• Recent Police Check (within the last year) complete with a vulnerable sector check.
The successful candidate will be directly employed by the individual and her family. This is a self-employment situation where the rate of pay will be $25.16/hr.
