Description
The High Commission of Malaysia in Ottawa is seeking a suitable candidate for the following position:
MESSENGER/DRIVER
JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Responsible for handling of cash and cheques, bank deposits, recording postage account book and maintaining postage
• Mail letters, parcels, bills and information material
• Hand deliveries of official documents and packages to the Office of Protocol (Global Affairs Canada) and embassies/consulates
• Photocopying of bills/financial statements and unclassified material when needed
• Assist in organizing and filing of GST Rebates
• Assist of maintain Chancery records of stationary supplies, cleaning and household supplies
• Operate official vehicles and assist in transporting officials and guests
• Responsible for all driving Home-based officers in regard to official appointments
• Maintain the fleet by ensuring regular and proper vehicle upkeep
• Maintain the Log Book accurately by recording trip details, fuel purchases and distance travelled
• Update the vehicle inspection book to ensure compliance with safety standards
• Safeguard fuel cards and vehicle keys in optimal condition
• Perform the duties of flag car driver during his absence
• Cover the duties of the Chancery’s driver during his absence
• Additional Responsibilities: Undertake any other tasks as directed
REQUIREMENTS:
• Eligibility to work in Canada is a requirement; the applicant must have the legal right to reside and work in Canada.
• Possess a valid Canadian driving license and clean driving record.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a professional demeanour when interacting with officials and guests.
• Ability to maintain the safety and security of packages, documents, messages, and other items received or being delivered.
• Thorough understanding of maps and directions, and traffic rules.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
• Physical fitness to perform duties related to deliveries, vehicle maintenance and other responsibilities.
• Ability to perform duties related to deliveries in all types of weather.
• Possessing handyman skills for minor upkeep is considered an asset.
