REHOME - 5 year old Italian greyhound/chihuahua mix
Description
I am looking to rehome my 5-year-old small mixed breed dog, Johnny (Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix, approximately 20–25 lbs).
Johnny is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, house trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands.
At home, Johnny is a loyal, affectionate “velcro” dog. He sleeps much of the day but loves his walks and getting outside. He enjoys routine and predictability. He is great in the car and settles well for travel.
He grew up with my 3.5-year-old daughter and does well with respectful, calm children. He does not tolerate rough handling.
Behaviourally, Johnny is a sensitive, fear-based dog. He will bark at new people initially but settles once he understands there is no threat. He does not do well with unfamiliar dogs and should not be placed in a dog park or high-traffic dog environment.
Leashing can be difficult — he is wary of having the leash put on and requires patience. Once leashed, he enjoys his walk. His recall off leash (in appropriate, safe areas) is generally good.
Johnny forms strong attachments and experiences separation anxiety. He loves his crate and treats it as his safe space; however, when left alone for extended periods, he can rub or scrape his nose trying to get out. He would do best in a home where someone is present much of the day.
There has been one bite incident: a guest hugged him tightly while playing, and he nipped, breaking a small amount of skin. There have been no other bite incidents.
Grooming requires care. I am usually able to bathe him. Brushing can be triggering, and nail trims have been difficult since a negative experience at a groomer about a year ago. An experienced handler or fear-free grooming approach would be important.
His original rescue records mentioned seizures; he has not had a seizure in the 3.5 years I have owned him.
Johnny would do best in a quiet, structured home with an experienced owner familiar with anxious or reactive dogs. He is not suitable for a busy household or frequent dog interactions. With consistency and patience, he is incredibly loving, loyal, and deeply bonded to his person.
This decision follows a separation and major schedule change. He is used to having someone home most of the time, and I cannot provide that anymore.
Serious, experienced inquiries only. I am committed to full transparency and careful placement.
