Job Title: Personal Care Attendant (Direct Funding Program)
Location: Kingsville.
Position: Permanent Part-Time/Back-up Compensation: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
About the Role
A woman with a physical disability, who self-manages her care through Ontario's Direct Funding program, www.dfontario.ca/ is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced individual to join her team. This role involves providing personal care, cooking, and housekeeping services, all dedicated to supporting her independence within her own home.
We are looking for a self-directed and trustworthy individual who is attentive, organized, and an effective communicator. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a private, scent-free, smoke-free, and pet-free home.
This is a permanent part-time position with a variable schedule that can change weekly based on the client’s needs, and may include some evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care: Assisting with all activities of daily living, including washing, dressing, grooming, and showering.
Mobility: Providing mobility assistance, including transfers, lifting, and assisting with range-of-motion exercises.
Health & Wellness: Providing medication reminders and ensuring adherence to the schedule.
Household Management: Performing light housekeeping duties such as laundry, tidying, dishes, vacuuming, and cleaning bathrooms and the kitchen.
Meal Preparation: Planning and preparing nutritious meals, creatively managing and adhering to multiple dietary restrictions and allergies.
Other Duties: Running errands (e.g., shopping, banking), driving, maintaining an inventory of supplies, and assisting with the upkeep of personal equipment.
General Support: Performing other similar tasks that the client would perform for herself were it not for her physical disability.
Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
Personal: Honest, reliable, and punctual. Demonstrates respect, patience, discretion, and compassion.
Professional: A self-directed, independent worker who is organized, resourceful, and a "detective" when it comes to problem-solving and details.
Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to be attentive to both verbal and non-verbal cues.
Scent-Free Mandate: Candidates must be prepared to adhere strictly to a 100% scent-free, smoke-free, and pet-free environment. This includes ensuring all personal care items (such as deodorant, skin care, hair products, and laundry detergents) used by the attendant are entirely free of all perfumes, fragrances, and essential oils. Unscented products only.
Key Requirements:
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and be worthy of trust.
Ability to follow directions and calmly manage and address issues as they arise.
Experience with cooking (especially navigating allergies) and cleaning.
Compliance with a strict fragrance-free personal care policy is mandatory and non-negotiable
The following are considered strong assets (bonuses/not mandatory):
Previous experience in a caregiving role.
Personal Support Worker (PSW) training or certificate.
Valid First Aid certification.
A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
