“Willow” (Will) is an 8 yr old 15.2 ( not sticked) dark brown grade gelding. I bought this guy late last fall hoping he would replace my “ready to retire” old faithful, but he is a bit more green than was advertised and I am past the stage (and desire) to spend the time needed on a greenbroke horse. He has great bone, feet and wither. He is a sweetheart on the ground - easy to catch, loves attention, stands tied, good to saddle and to mount. He's great for trimming and easy going around other horses. Not herd bound. His previous owner was a young girl, who probably did not use him a lot, so he has not had to work too hard in the last few years. I rode him a couple of times before winter set in - he was pretty good, but doesn't neck rein all that great and has not been exposed to a lot of things we encounter on busy roads - Perhaps coming from the bush he has not seen much open county, either!
He has a good walk, a super smooth trot and lope, but can be cold backed - mostly when first put into a lope. Not mean about it - just more lazy, and settles in to a nice lope after he gets that out of the way. He has just come back from 30 days with our lease rider who mostly just did some arena work with him and played a bit with a rope, dragging a log, etc. He tells me Willow could make a good ranch horse and he is willing to be contacted for information.
I am sad to list him - he is such a nice horse to be around, but I no longer have cows so no real work for him - I have become a “slow ride on the prairie” type, and hate to see a young horse with potential just standing in the field. Take this guy, put some work and time in and make a ranch horse out of him. More pictures to come and video on request.
