The Gibson ES-175 (1949–2019) fully hollow-body jazz electric guitar became one of Gibson's most popular and longest surviving guitar issue. Jazz guitarists like Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Pat Metheny, and jazz-fusion artists like Steve Howe and succeeding generations have found themselves drawn to the dark pearly attack, warm rounded tone, and elegant feel of the now classic ES-175.
This 1991 re-issue like the original has a laminated maple body, pointed Florentine cutaway, solid mahogany neck, and nickel-plated hardware. Pick-ups are '57 classic Humbuckers, 24.75"/1.687" scale/nut width, rosewood 20 fret fingerboard with parallelogram inlays, full body and neck bindings, tune-o-matic bridge and trapeze tailpiece, with mahogany top, sides and back, and a one-piece mahogany neck.
Finished in a natural stain, this jazz box is a beautiful work of art. There is mild age-related weathering/crazing of the finish that adds to its authenticity & luster. It is relatively free of scratches, gouges, or dents, some very minor scuffing is evident.. All equipment is original (or available) although I have replaced the bridge with a tune-o-matic one and identical replacement tuners.
This instrument, well back a decade ago, had a minor hairline crack in the head (see last picture) that was fully & successfully repaired. I recently had this guitar evaluated and set-up (R-Guitars: a well-know Calgary Luthier), no issues whatsoever were noted, the guitar and specifically the head was deemed stable and in excellent shape structurally and tonally. The Gibson factory has provided documented authenticity. Original period hard shell case included.
