Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

  • The Director, Ancillary Services, is an architect of opportunity. As the Director of Ancillary Services and Campus Planning you will play a pivotal role sharing the future of our campuses in helping to ensure every student's journey is an exceptional one. As the Director, you'll lead strategic oversight to revolutionize ancillary services, including bookstores, cafeterias, parking, rentals, event management, and leasing. Your role is to enhance the student and campus experience while exploring revenue-generating opportunities. Collaborate with senior leaders, create an innovative service delivery model, and elevate ancillary services to new heights.
  • The Director requires the ability to build strategy, initiate, implement and support new or modified approaches, practices, and processes in Ancillary Services, recognizing the need for change across service areas and setting priorities accordingly to implement change and maximize effectiveness.
  • The Director is responsible to collaboratively design the delivery of non-academic service; ancillary services provided at campuses through the creation of a campus-based ancillary service delivery framework. The Director must be able to impact and influence colleagues in our matrixed organization and provide leadership to others with whom they do not have a direct reporting relationship.
  • Engaging and collaborating with Campus Principals, the Director will position the NSCC to leverage relationships and partnerships to facilitate community, regional and provincial sense-making, and opportunity development, and will also bring community-based intelligence to NSCC colleagues to work together to inform strategic and business planning, as well as influence academic programming across all lines of business.
  • This position plays a supportive role to the entire Campuses and Communities portfolio by facilitating integrated and aligned campus planning activities and serving to anchor campus-based service delivery as responsive to local, regional and sector needs and opportunities. Key focus areas include campus service delivery excellence, development of key performance indicators and measurement, and continuous process improvement.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is an Undergraduate degree in related field such as Business Administration, Business Community Development, Business Hospitality Management or other discipline cognizant of economic and social development activities.
  • A Master's, Business Administration (MBA), or Masters, Public Administration (MPA) would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of ten (10) years of recent and related occupational experience with increasing levels of leadership, responsibility and accountability managing diverse business operations, preferably in post-secondary or applied industry environment.
  • Demonstrated recent experience in strategic planning, process improvement and operations leadership, preferably in an academic or applied industry environment.
  • Recent experience in a senior leadership role, ideally in a large, complex organization.
  • Broad general knowledge of community, government, business & industry engagement.
  • Demonstrated relationship building experience partnering with communities, business, government, funding agencies and other post-secondary institutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources management principles with the ability to create an engaging and inclusive and effective working environment for employees through hiring, orientation, development, and mentorship.
  • Experience within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment with competing priorities.
  • A proven track record of leadership in effectively managing and inspiring staff.
  • Experience managing physical and financial resources to ensure effective service delivery.
  • High level of proficiency in digital environments including Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.
  • Proven ability to quickly establish effective and credible relationships, both internally and externally, is also essential in this role.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated creativity in idea generation and solution implementation.

  • Demonstrated ability to operationalize sound strategy through implementation.

  • Strong management of people skills: hiring, development, performance management, etc.
  • Ability to influence, facilitate, negotiate, and manage multiple stakeholders with various and sometimes conflicting interests to achieve a cohesive approach that meets organizational objectives.
  • Values diversity and cultural proficiency while constantly encouraging cross-cultural understanding of all NSCC partners.
  • Ability to work in ambiguity to create clarity.
