Information Technology (IT) Student Placement North Sydney

Marine Atlantic is a Federal Crown Corporation that provides a vital ferry service link between Newfoundland and Labrador and mainland Canada.

We are looking for a motivated and self-driven Information Technology (IT) student to join our team in North Sydney, NS for the 2024 summer season at Marine Atlantic.

The IT Student will support and assist the MAI IT-OPS department in providing technical assistance, maintaining computer systems, and configuring hardware and software. The successful candidate will be able to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, assist with the implementation of new technologies, and provide training and support to team members.

Hourly Rate of Pay: $15/hour

Information Technology (IT) Intern Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the deployment of IT Technology on MAI's new vessel the Alu'suinu.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff and customers on hardware and software-related issues.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer systems, hardware, and software
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot any issues.
  • Follow established procedures and processes for computer maintenance.
  • Provide training and support to MAI users on the use of computer systems and software.
  • Enter and Service Incidents in MAI's Help Desk ticketing Solution.
  • Research and recommend solutions for technical problems.

Information Technology (IT) Student Requirements and Qualifications

  • Computer Science, IT Support and Maintenance or IT related field
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software
  • Knowledge of network and system security
  • Familiarity with hardware and software installation
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to learn quickly and adapt to changing technology
