Scientific Name: Sternotherus carinatus
Origin: Southern U.S. (captive bred in Canada)
Adult Size: 4.5–6 inches
Lifespan: 25–30 years
Temperament: Docile, mostly aquatic, shy but curious
Razorbacks are known for their keeled (razor-like) shell, adorable wrinkled necks, and unique personalities. They are one of the best turtles for life in captivity due to their small size and minimal basking needs.

Basic Care Requirements

Tank Setup:
Juveniles: 20–30 gallons
Adults: 40–75 gallons
Water Depth: Moderate (8–12”), strong swimmers but prefer shallow setups
Substrate: Sand or bare-bottom
Décor: Driftwood, rocks, hiding spots
