Hello all, I am completely heartbroken to post this, but I am needing to temporarily or permanently re-home my incredible, kind, expertly well-trained Weimaraner, Newton.
Newton is 3.5 years old (born Feb 28, 2022), and is so very kind and gentle, great with kids and all other animals, and is really well trained. He is 75 lbs, is pretty happy being left alone for a reasonable amount of time, is great with other dogs/pets/kids and loves to swim and run around freely, always coming back when you call. Newt has great re-call, good obedience, has never damaged/chewed things like furniture, almost never takes food off the table (a few times he stole a loaf of bread and cuddled with it). He has never displayed any tendency towards violence at all, ever. He does tend to pull on the leash a bit, but I think that is because he great up in a rural area where he wasn't often walked on leash. He does tend to try to briefly jump up on new guests to the house, just when they first arrive. He's a very smart dog, and he really needs a long walk or even better an off-leash run every day to be content. A backyard where he can go out to throughout the day is also very helpful, or perhaps a rural home where he can run freely. He loves to play fetch with his chuck it, and has been going to doggy daycare once a week to socialize.
I'm moving from Winnipeg to Montreal to go back to school and for financial and logistical reasons, I can't keep him with me at this time. I simply won't be able to give Newt the care he deserves and needs to be happy while I am trying to go to school, find a new job, and build a new life for myself in a new city. Plus, I've had a really hard time finding an affordable pet-friendly living situation. And so I am looking to either re-home Newton until May or June 2026 (at which point I will be done with the most intense part of my schooling and will be able to get financially setup and in an apartment that he will be allowed), or re-home him permanently. I will need to figure this out by mid-August 2025.
If you would be interested in offering Newt a temporary home, I would offer to pay for all of the food and other associated costs. I would even consider offering some sort of honourarium.
If you would like to take him permanently, I would have to meet you and see your place to ensure it will be a suitable home for him, as I care very much about this kind soul. Feel free to get in touch with me directly if you are interested, or message me here on OKz.ca.
