Job Description- Cellar Hand

A Cellar Hand is responsible for managing the fermentation, clarification, and conditioning processes that turn raw ingredients into finished beer. They handle critical brewing operations, including monitoring fermentation progress, adjusting temperatures and pressures, operating the centrifuge for beer clarification, and conducting essential tests to ensure quality and consistency. This role requires careful attention to detail, mechanical awareness, and independent problem-solving, as Cellar Hands work with minimal supervision to maintain efficiency in production.
This is a physically demanding position, requiring repetitive lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing for extended periods, and working in hot, cold, and wet environments. Cellar Hands manage hazardous materials like sanitizers, acids, and caustics, ensuring proper handling and disposal to maintain safety standards. The role also involves equipment operation, troubleshooting, and record-keeping, making it ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, technical precision and working within a brewery team.

Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: 3:00-10:00pm (Training schedule differs)
Location: Brewery
Reports to: Production Manager
Starting Wage: $20.00/hourly
Health Benefits: 3 Months (90-days)


Workplace Conditions and Hazards

1. Extreme Temperatures – Exposure to high heat and humidity.
2. Heavy & Repetitive Lifting – Repetitive lifting of hoses, and materials with varying weights up to 50 lbs.
3. Hot Water & Steam – Exposure to high-temperature water and pressurized steam systems.
4. CO2 & Chemical Exposure – Handling caustic, acids, and sanitizers. PPE required.
5. Standing for Extended Periods – Involves prolonged standing on concrete flooring, along with frequent kneeling and bending for tasks.
6. Noise Exposure – Loud machinery and equipment.
7. Pressurized Systems – Working with pressurized capsules, steam systems, and compressed air.
