this beautiful hand made Victorian era Hall tree came to me in a very bad state. it was left outside on a deck for almost 30 years. it was bleached white and all the mortise and tenen joints were loose. the main body of this unit is all mortise and tenen. no screws.
all the original coat hangers were missing the base was warped and broken. i put new cast coat hooks and some hangers for keys. i also added some wrought iron accents
I disassembled the whole unit, many hours of sanding to get the bleached wood back to its full beautiful color. then old american stain and 2 coats of a satin verathane.
all the mortise joints were re-glued and then i used a modern fastener to join the front and back together. it is now a very soid unit. i left the bottom and back as they were with 125 years of oxidation.
it originally the same on both sides but i decided to make it a bit more useful for todays daily life. so the left is your umbrella/cane rack and the other side i put marble and a carpet on the base for shoes n such.
the box has the original hinges and was lined with a vintage look wallpaper.

this is a fully hand made 125 year old unit. it is not perfect
but tuned out awesome considering it was outside for 30 years.
