After Wajid Ali Shah was deposed by the British there was an estate sale in 1858? featuring possessions from his famed wall city of Kaiserbagh. It was said that housed an animal sanctuary inside the walls of his estate housing amongst other things tigers and rhinocerous. He was said to ride around his estate on a saddled giraffe. Carved into the back of the chair is a Goddess holding a Cobra in each hand. This Lady is the goddess of fertility, and the 'Last King in India' ensured that his 300 wives who lived in a compound within the walls had their own market deom which to shop. Wajid Ali Shah was also an accomplished composer and the carver added a little boy playing an Indian wind instrument to the King's stylized Family Crest. An interesting piece of mythology is the fact that Indian crocodiles were guardians of the Throne Room and to the tops of the arms of the chair carved in 'high relief' were crocodiles disposing of Cobras. The high relief carved crocodiles served to assist the King in maintaining a level of decorum while sitting on the Throne Chair. The chair was carved in the most beautiful grade of Bombay Blackwood featuring its famed purple hue. One rear leg has slight warping, however this does not impact the balance or solid nature of this "Indian Cultural National Treasure." $9000.00 Dollars OBO
