Evening Caregiver Needed – North Edmonton (Cat Lover a Must)

I'm seeking a dependable female caregiver to join me in my calm, cat-loving home in North Edmonton—a space where routine, trust, and compassion come first. This is more than just a caregiving job—it's a chance to make a real difference in someone's everyday life in a setting built on emotional safety and mutual respect.
About the Role
I'm a physically disabled woman seeking a kind, reliable caregiver to help with both daily routines and caring for my cats, who are very much my children. You'll be supporting me with day-to-day tasks including personal care, mobility assistance, and household upkeep, and sometimes joining me for errands or appointments. I'm easy to work with as long as expectations are respected and communication is clear. Another caregiver will help train you at first, and I'll guide you as needed. Experience isn't required—I'll provide full training—but a willingness to learn and a caring attitude are a must.
The environment is quiet, respectful, and built around routine—ideal for someone who thrives in low-stress, emotionally aware spaces.
Start Date
I'm hoping to have someone start as soon as possible, or by August at the latest.
Personal Care Support
Personal care consists of but is not limited to stand-and-pivot transfers from wheelchair to the couch or toilet, assistance with hygiene routines, basic meal preparation, and light housekeeping to keep the space clean and comfortable. This also includes seasonal yard maintenance, such as mowing the lawn in summer and shoveling snow in winter. Occasionally, I'll need assistance getting to appointments, running errands, or attending local events. If you drive, that's a plus—but it's not required.
Cat Care Is Not Optional
My cats are my kids in every way that matters. They're loved, respected, and cared for just like any human family member—and I expect that same level of care from anyone in this home.
You'll be responsible for feeding them, keeping their litter boxes clean, offering affection (on their terms), playing with them, and sometimes even taking them to the hospital or clinic when needed. One of my boys is on a prescription diet and daily medication due to severe anxiety and urinary issues. You'll need to be comfortable and confident giving him his meds.
The home is monitored by cameras to ensure their safety and well-being—nothing intrusive, just for peace of mind. I use timeouts and redirection to guide behavior—just as you would with a sensitive or strong-willed toddler. Cruel or fear-based methods like yelling, threats, or spray bottles are not allowed. They even get little lectures when they misbehave—yes, they understand. Unlike what most cat experts say, those actually work with mine. Simply put: if it's not something you'd do to your own child, don't do it here. My cats deserve to feel safe, respected, and understood at all times.
And just a heads up—I really don't like the word “kitty.” I say “kids” instead (or “cats” in formal settings only).
Any mistreatment or disregard for their care will result in immediate removal from the role.
Schedule & Flexibility
The regular schedule is Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Your first shift will be a hands-on training session, unpaid but essential, to help you learn the routine and confirm that we're a good fit for each other.
Because I need daily support, I'm also looking for someone who can occasionally fill in if another caregiver is sick or has an emergency. I'm flexible—even a couple of hours is helpful—and I'll work with whatever you already have planned that day.
On the other hand, if you're unable to work your regular shift, I ask that you let me know right away.
Adjusting or swapping days is an option.
Upcoming Extra Shifts
You'll be required to take on a heavier shift load from August 25 to September 15, as my main caregiver will be away and my father—who typically helps during vacations—will be unavailable.
You'll also be expected to accompany me during Edmonton Expo weekend, September 19–21. This will likely involve extended daytime shifts, potentially running all day, starting around 9:00 AM. You won't need to pay for your own entry ticket, but you must be comfortable in large crowds and public spaces. I've missed the last six Expos, and this year it's important for me to take some personal time away from my fur kids and enjoy the event.
Final hours will be confirmed closer to the date, but you must be fully available for all three days. That doesn't mean you'll be the only one going every day—but if one of the other caregivers needs a break, you'll be expected to go due to seniority. This is an expensive event and important to me, so flexibility and teamwork are non-negotiable.
Once my main caregiver returns, you'll get a break if needed, especially if you've been taking on extra during that time.
Pay & Position Type
This is strictly a part-time role, ideal for a student, someone who works part-time elsewhere, or someone looking for evening hours—not for someone seeking full-time employment or a temporary gig—I'm looking for long-term consistency.
We'll discuss pay during the interview, including how and when payment is issued. There is a 3-month probation period with the potential for a raise based on consistency, performance, and how well you adapt to the routine.
This role offers stability, consistency, and the chance to become part of a supportive home environment.
Long-Term Outlook
I plan to move to Edmonton's west end sometime in the next year. Ideally, I'd love to find someone who's open to continuing in the role after that move.
There will be more shifts opening up down the road—but only for someone who proves to be reliable and consistent.
What I'm Looking For
You should be someone who is kind, emotionally aware, dependable, and physically capable of stand-and-pivot transfers. This means helping me move safely from my wheelchair to the couch or toilet without lifting me. Another caregiver will show you exactly how I like things done.
You must be comfortable with cats, able to follow detailed instructions, and fluent in English. You don't need formal certifications—I'll teach you everything you need. But I do expect a strong commitment to learning and full reliability once trained.
If you drive, a low-height vehicle is helpful but not required. A background check is required before you begin regular shifts.
If you're the kind of person who shows up on time, follows through, and takes pride in doing things properly, you'll fit in great here.
Personality Fit
Because this is such a personal role, I care a lot about who I bring into my home. When you apply, feel free to include a few personal touches—what kinds of things you enjoy, your favorite shows or movies, or anything else that gives me a sense of who you are beyond the resume. If you have any physical or mental health concerns that might affect the role, you're welcome to share those too.
Interviews
If it feels like a good fit, I'll confirm an interview with you. Please note: all interviews are held on Friday evenings only. If you need to reschedule, I ask that you let me know by the night before.
If you're confirmed for an interview, you'll need to email me on that Thursday by 1 PM to request the time and address—I won't be sending reminders, so please make sure you remember.
How to Apply
To apply, send a short introduction and your resume to craigjessicasamantha@gmail.com. Then, please text me at 780-666-1321 to confirm your application—I don't check email as often, and texting helps make sure I don't miss your message.
If you're someone who leads with kindness, shows up reliably, and genuinely cares for both people and animals, I'd truly love to hear from you. This is a peaceful home built around trust, consistency, and mutual respect. The work is meaningful, the environment is steady, and the fur kids are full of personality. If that sounds like the kind of place you'd want to be, don't hesitate to reach out—I'd love to meet someone who truly fits in here.
