This is a self feeder, it could work for hens, dogs, cats or other smaller animals. You fill the top hopper animal step on the foot , lid opens.
This is used to save your feed from other birds, squirrels and mice.

if you have hens, and you feel they are going through a lot of feed, maybe just maybe they're not the only ones eating the feed. These self feeders have been around for as long as people have had hens the reason is to keep feed away from other small animals. Simple by design but effective , hen steps on the foot lid opens hen eats, lid will close when hen walks away.
