With a heavy and broken heart, I'm reaching out in the hopes of finding a very special home for my boy, Tatertot.

He's also known as Tater or lovingly, Toot Toot. He's a 4-year-old English Bulldog with the biggest heart and an even bigger need for love, patience, and stability. This decision is crushing for me, but it's one I have to make for his well-being.

Tater is my whole world. He's a joyful, goofy, affectionate little soul who wants nothing more than to be by your side, snuggled up, or chasing his favorite ball for hours. He loves the outdoors, the snow, basking in the sun, splashing in his pool, and even taking baths. His quirks are endless and endearing — he's truly one of a kind. But sadly, he needs more than I can give him now.

Tater came to me at one year old after suffering through a year of abuse. Because of that trauma, he struggles deeply with trust — especially with men. Since moving in with my partner, his protective behaviors have escalated. He has bitten, both people and other dogs, in moments of high anxiety or when he feels his bond with me is being threatened.

He's currently in training with Bark Busters and has made some progress, but I can't continue the level of care and training he truly needs to thrive. Bark Busters will remain a lifetime resource for whoever is able to give him the right home — and I hope that home is out there, somewhere.

Unfortunately, due to an accident that left me home most days, Tater has become deeply attached to me as his primary caregiver. This pattern isn't new for him — in both his previous home and mine, he tends to bond intensely with the person who is home the most, often the “mom” figure in the household.

When I adopted him, his former family shared that he had become similarly attached to his original caregiver, who was also home all day. Over time, this led to him showing aggression toward her children and husband, as he began guarding her and reacting to anyone he saw as a threat to that bond.

This attachment-based behavior is a core part of why he needs a home with experience, boundaries, and continued training. In the right hands, with structure and support, this can be worked on — but it must be taken seriously from the start.

Please be aware that Tater has a history of biting and reactive behavior, especially in situations where he feels anxious or protective. I truly believe much of this stems from deep-rooted stress and anxiety — he carries a lot emotionally, and it shows in how he responds to the world around him. And from a lack of consistent training

At times, he engages in "rough" play which I hope could be worked on in training.

Medication may be beneficial to help ease some of his anxiety, and it's something worth exploring with a veterinarian. More than anything, he needs someone who can see past the challenges and love him through both his good days and his tough ones — someone patient, committed, and ready to help him heal.

Tater cannot go to a home with children or other pets. He needs someone patient, experienced, and willing to work through his trauma. He is not a beginner dog. But for the right person, he will be the most loyal, loving, and rewarding companion. He deserves that chance.

Please understand, this is not a light ask. There will be a careful vetting process. My biggest fear is that he ends up in the wrong hands, or worse — passed around or put down due to his behavior. He's 90% the sweetest, most lovable dog you'll ever meet. But the other 10% can be unpredictable, and that's why this decision is so heartbreaking. I love him too much to watch him struggle in a home that no longer works for him.

He will come with everything he loves and needs:
- Lifetime training with Bark Busters (London and surrounding area) $250 owner transfer fee that I will cover. His current trainer is Kelly and she covers Grand Bend to St Thomas, about half way to Woodstock and Sarnia. There is an option to change trainers within areas outside of this if needed and would be happy to cover that.
- Up-to-date vaccines
- Neutered
- Bulldog breathing surgery was done as a pup
- His crate, beds, toys, blankets
- His sweater collection
- Leashes, collars
- Bowls, food stand, storage bins
- A fresh supply of food (dry and wet)
- His outdoor pool
