Shalom Community Co-operative is seeking a reliable and experienced maintenance worker to help with minor repair and maintenance tasks around our 40-unit housing co-op, located in the Forest Heights neighbourhood of Kitchener. This is a part-time, flexible role, ideal for someone who already does freelance repair work or is semi-retired and enjoys hands-on problem solving.
AVAILABILITY/HOURS:
1 - 2 days/week @ 6 hours/day
Initial need is for twice-weekly availability, which will transition to once-weekly availability after 2 – 3 months. This reflects the need to address a current backlog of maintenance tasks before shifting into a more routine schedule focused on general upkeep and timely response to issues as they arise.
There may still be occasional need for twice-weekly availability in the future, such as during unexpectedly heavy demand, or when larger or more time-consuming work requests occur.
PAY:
$25/hour
RESPONSIBILITIES:
GENERAL LIGHT MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS
• Tightening or replacing cabinet hinges, knobs, and handles
• Reaffixing loose mailboxes, hooks, or other such small fixtures
• Repairing minor drywall holes and surface cracks
• Performing light painting or touch-ups
• Replacing screens, weather stripping, caulking, etc
• Minor plumbing repairs (e.g. unclogging drains, replacing faucet washers or cartridges)
• Lubricating door hinges, window tracks, or locks
• Reinstalling shelves, closet rods/hardware, light fixtures, etc
WORK ORDER TRACKING AND ASSESSMENT
• Reviewing and following up on reported maintenance issues
• Determining whether tasks are suitable for in-house completion
• Recommending professional contractors when work exceeds scope or requires certification
SHED AND EQUIPMENT OVERSIGHT (Eventual / Occasional)
• Checking co-op shed for equipment condition and inventory
• Noting broken, unsafe, or missing items
• Reporting tools or supplies in need of servicing or replacement to the Co-op Office/Board
REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS:
• Demonstrated experience with general repair and maintenance tasks
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Own tools/equipment
• Reliable means of transportation
• Independent contractors with their own liability insurance and WSIB coverage are preferred, but all applicants will be considered
