I present to you this gorgeous excellent quality mid-century (around 1950-60's) sideboard unit. This was designed by EE Meyer for Binnehuis. Alongside other noteworthy designers, EE Meyer (directed by Gerhardt Meyer) was one of South Africa's most renowned furniture makers during the mid-century period and produced exceptional quality furniture. Meyer's designs were known for their generous use of solid exotic timber, unique forms, and premium cabinetry.

The Binnehuis furniture stores were located in Cape Town and Somerset-West, and were owned by a Dutch businessman and his wife, Mr and Mrs van Ewijck, who moved between South Africa and the Netherlands. This is South Africa's most sought-after mid-century furniture manufacturer and it is a sought-after piece. Owning an EE Meyer piece is owning a piece of history.

Materials – note the bold linear form with beautiful clean lines and rounded shapes and the warm tones of the Imbuia wood (African Walnut). The four felt-lined drawers underneath the solid Imbuia top provide good storage, yet not detracting from the design lines. Four cabinet doors, reveal solid Imbuia shelved storage. As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality thick wood veneer. Very sturdy and quite heavy, built solid for decades of future use.
