2011 (bought new in 2013) 24BH Creekside Bonded/Fiberglas trailer. Original owner. $8800
Reasons to buy this unit:
- 24' is the sweet spot for a travel trailer. It is big enough for most, but fits in pretty much any campsite and is a relatively easy tow.
- 4600 lbs dry weight. I have towed with Ford F150s with the 5.4, a 3.5 (2012) and a 3.5 again (2020). The 5.4 was perfectly adequate, no problems whatsoever going as fast as you want or passing. The 3.5 is even better, especially on launch. Yes, mileage sucks in the wind. Expect around 20 l/100KM on average towing loaded with those powerplants. Surprisingly, mileage improves in the mountains. Go figure.
- Pro tip: if your vehicle has never been used for towing you may find that the trailer battery won't charge from your tow vehicle when travelling. This may be due to a deliberately left out 12 volt trailer plug fuse if factory installed in the vehicle. The manufacturer apparently leaves it out to reduce corrosion in the plug. The fuse may be left in the glove compartment.
- It has a very competent layout. No slide, so that hassle and weight are gone. You could sleep 6(7?) but that means the whole rigamarole of setting up the dinner table as a bed. It makes into a good bed, but that gets old quick.
- It has a made-up “RV” Queen up front. This always there to sack out on without unfolding a couch or pulling something off the wall. This is a Big Deal, you want this badly.
- There is a “Jack and Jill” bunk at the back. The top bunk is cot sized but is rated for 350 lbs(!). The lower unit is roughly a double. We had two kids, it was ideal, they each had an actual bed. When travelling as a couple the empty bunk beds were perfect for stacking clothing or whatever. This is a great couple's trailer in that respect. It is a full width unit, many “lightweights” are actually quite narrow which may not be immediately apparent. Do not be fooled by the tiny shiny 16' units that have all sorts of clever space saving ideas. “Oh look sweetie – it's soo cute!”. By Day 3 of the rain the walls will be getting very close indeed.
- The storage is generous to say the least. Lots of quality shelving, and the Queen bed lifts for a huge space underneath.
- There is a large access door at the back by the bunks. It was probably designed as an emergency exit but it is also an easy way to make up a corner bed from outside.
- The electric awning is great. It's like a heated steering wheel, you don't need one until you have had one, then there is no going back. I replaced the awning fabric last year. Note: Two smart people can easily replace a awning. If you are really dumb it turns out just one person can do the job if needed. But don't.
- The unit has a good air conditioner, and I installed a “SoftStart”. This device ramps up the current to the compressor, reducing the start load on a generator and making for a quieter start as well. I can use a 2200 watt generator unit to run the air sometimes (not included), not sure just how low you could go.
- The unit comes with two 30 lb propane bottles. There is likely a full season left of propane, but you will have to get recertified before refilling. The battery is fairly new.
- It comes with an excellent equalizer hitch. This takes out the sag when you hook up the trailer. It comes with an Anti-Sway shock absorber thingy I never used or needed. Remember you must have an electric brake module on your vehicle. These are easily added by any competent shade-tree mechanic or garage.
- There is solar panel on the roof but it is waaaaay undersized to do much beyond act as a maybe charge maintainer. Good news is that you can use the existing wiring and put a real panel up there.
- The front jack has been replaced and set back to allow a half-ton truck to drop the tail gate when the unit is hooked up. Not sure if this lack of clearance is just a Ford thing but the replacement jack is much more robust.
- Rubber roof and fiberglas wall mean no hail or branch dings. I did replace some vent stuff due to hail some years ago, it's all good now. There is some very minor delamination on the walls, I will likely have to point it out to you.
- It has a two-door freezer/fridge. This works off of gas or plug in. Pretty much all the newer fridges are only plug in, so I do not know what happens when you are “boondockiing” without power. This thing will run for months on very little propane.
- It has a microwave (where we store the bananas) and three-burner stove with an oven (where we keep the bread}. It all works great, it is just that you find you do not use them often. Kinda like the outdoor shower wand. Yes, it has one but we have never used it.
Bottom line is that this is a very well-built unit in very, very good condition, and looks nice too. We are retired and are trying a Class C motorhome, so this is surplus to our needs.
The price is $8800. You do not have to dicker so no stress. Please do not try to talk me down because you saw a cheaper unit or there is a scratch somewhere. The price is well below market for a pretty much “As New” rig. This is a great unit for new campers, old campers, people with kids, or maybe without. We take off the bottom bunk mattress and put two big dog crates there sometimes – they fit perfectly.
It would be a great extra room for cottage owners or portable accommodations for travelling workers.
I guess you could buy a new trailer, but at $40,000 for a comparable rig you might as well get this one AND a pretty nice used truck to pull it with the $31,200 savings.
One final consideration. We live in the woods and are under threat from wildfire every summer. This trailer is part of our “Bug Out” plan. We partially load it and leave it hooked up. Turn the key and go, no gymnasiums or hotels for us. We have the motorhome now for the same application. If you are in a similar situation this is great peace of mind.
Buy it today, enjoy the summer exploring, and if you find it is not for you sell it for the same price or maybe more next year.
I am five minutes north of Prince Albert. Local delivery may be available if needed.
One last note for the scammers: No, I will not log into your preferred “Title Search” page with my credit card, even though you “already have the money”. A VIN search is free on SGI.
