Linda Olafson was born in 1922 and grew up on a farm near Mossbank, Saskatchewan. After taking an extension course from the University of Regina in the late 1960s Olafson developed an expertise in creating hand-built ceramic flowers. She soon gained national recognition (at an early show in Edmonton, Alberta, a corporation purchased her entire collection), and was commissioned to create a set of emblematic flowers for the 1976 Montreal Olympics. In 1978 Olafson was commissioned to create a ceramic floral display presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during the royal visit to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and her work as been presented to Governor Generals and to Norway's King Olaf. Linda Olafson died in 1992, in Mossbank.
