Upright geometry and wide bars for a relaxed, mountain-bike-inspired fit.
Bought and shipped from Montreal during peak Covid bike shortage, but found the drop bar gravel bike I really wanted in stock a month later. Ridden 200km, at most.
This would be great as a really comfortable commuter, but the bike was also designed with rougher terrain in mind: gravel bike gearing, plenty of room for wider tires, steel fork to help absorb vibrations on gravel and bumpy roads.
I think this guy really nailed this bike in his review:
“Kentfield 2... Great bike for the price....a commuter... Bikepacking rig. A mountain bikers fitness bike.
Loving my Kentfield 2. The design and build is spot on at this price point. Would have preferred hydraulic brakes instead of mechanical but relatively easy upgrade. Love the simplicity of this design. The 10spd microshift drive train feels just as good as as 11spd deore on the trek fx4. And it also has a 51T in the back for steep hills. The 40mm tires are nice and there's room to go bigger. The wheels feel solid. This bike has potential for bikepacking I think but mostly I plan on riding it for fitness and commuting 5 miles to work mostly on gravel trails. The handlebars are wider than on the trek and sweep back more. I mountain bike a lot so the combination of the handlebars and drivetrain are very familiar. It kind of feels like a mountain bike designed for the road and recreational trails. The steel fork does a pretty good job of soaking up small bumps and it has plenty of mounting points.”
