Cannon Pak 38 50 mm cannon Model German WW 2 I:6 scale
The 5 cm Pak 38 (L/60) (5 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 38 (L/60)) was a 50 mm cal German anti tank . It was developed in 1938 by Rheinmetall-Borsig AG as a successor to the 37 mm Pak and followed by the 76 mm Pak. The unique curved gun-shield design differed from most WWII anti-tank guns which had either one flat or two angled and one flat gun-shield plates for ease of manufacturing.
This no longer available plastic model by Dragon is a highly detailed and well made model at a monster scale, over 2 feet long. It was purchased as an exemplar in order to build a metal model to the same dimensions but I lost steam on this project. Very rare kit, long out of production and was assembled by another hobbyist who did an excellent job, unpainted. These models when available retailed for 300-500 dollars un assembled. This one is in excellent condition and is ready to be painted and re assembled, the assembly is simple. There are 6 major assembled pieces to put together, barrel, recoil slide, gun base with trunnions and elevation wheels, carriage with wheels and lower shield, upper shield. There is a breech block that rotates in the barrel. The elevation and traverse wheels are non-functional , however the entire barrel assembly turns around a pin. There are three minor flaws , none of them cosmetic, which a model builder can easily remedy with a little minor fabrication and are included in the images.
1) Missing small pin that locks the 2 parts of the gun carriage frame together for transport, easy fab with a bit of dowel
2) The second small protruding stud pin on the gun shield inner right side that attaches it to the gun base is missing, this can be fabbed with a small piece of dowel and glued in place
3) The left hand spade on the carriage is missing, this can be fabbed using the right side spade as an exemplar from heat bendable plastic or wood, balsa etc.


Overall a rare and cool cannon model in immaculate condition with a few tiny fixes at a fraction of the insane prices you see on eBay and elsewhere.
