It's a touring company within a touring company!
This zany and unforgettable ode to Gilbert & Sullivan is sure to leave you humming, "ha-ha-ing" and wanting more.
Written by Edmonton's own Criselda Mierau and directed by Timothy Anderson, this show is like a sitcom met Gilbert & Sullivan and came away with this delightfully funny hybrid of a tale!
It's a touring show-within-a-touring show that sees 5 zany characters (sometimes 6!) clinging desperately to their company's glory days of large casts, a running crew, full houses, and no financial strain - but those days are over.
SYNOPSIS:
Siblings Arthur and Sarah inherited the company from their father and are trying to prevent what seems like its imminent demise.
Arthur, as the group's increasingly stressed-out stage manager, must now brave the stage as an actor to help fill out songs and scenes, and Sarah can't seem to just keep the company afloat financially, while holding out hope for a romance with one of the few actors who's still hanging on - Norm, the company's 'leading man' who seems to only have eyes for himself and for causing drama between the three women in the cast.
Cammy, the youngest and newest addition to the cast, flits through the show oblivious to the fact she's on a sinking ship. She's much more focused on getting her castmates to actually notice her, and maybe becoming the star of their shows, while she's at it. But Jean, the company's longest-serving cast member and the resident diva, is not about to give up her position of presumed authority without a fight, nor any of the lead roles that come with the territory...
Tensions run high, notes run even higher, props get ridiculous and costume changes are a complete hit and miss with this troupe.
And that's all without the snarky accompanist putting in his two cents worth. Things have gotten so crazy that nobody even knows which town they are in, so please don't be offended if they think they're in Sherwood, Saskatchewan or Fort Park or Fort Badminton!
How can this poor touring company possibly be saved? How could they ever
hope to solve their financial woes? Well, we can't tell you - except to say that, in
true Gilbert & Sullivan fashion, there'll be a happy ending for all thanks to a
rather ridiculous (yet classic G&S!) plot device, but you'll have to stay until the
very end to find out exactly what that means.
(note from our suffering company's co-owner Sarah - "PLEASE stay until the end")
