Have had this set all my life, it's metal, the surface is like countertop, and is clean without scratches, chips or stains, the chairs have been re-covered in tan vinyl, they all turn freely, it's very solid and sturdy and heavy. Fun to spin in the chairs as a kid. But I'm ready to let it go now. Want something different. $150. firm
