I have an antique frame from late 1800's / possibly early 1900's. It is basically an antique shadow box.
This was my great, great grandmother's and has been in storage all these years. It is very heavy, solid wood, and the glass is thick.
The gold frame inside is decorated with what I believe to be gilded 22k gold leaf. When you remove it from the outside frame you can see on the sides where it has been protected from the dirt that unmistakable sheen of the gold leaf. (see photos) It has no tarnish whatsoever which is a sure sign of real gold.
The double photo mats are old leather. The wood on the back is showing signs of oxidation which is another sign that this is a very old frame. The wood seems very fragile.
Overall dimensions of the shadow box: 15.75" x 13.5" x 2". Overall dimensions of the inside gold frame: 15" x 12.75". The frames would obviously need to be restored, especially the gold frame on the inside as pieces of the molding have cracked and some have come off but it can definitely be restored.
