“The musical ride was instituted in the Force not long after its inception in 1873. It is believed to have originated in the Lancer Regiments of Britain. Usually performed by a troup of 32 men and horses, the intricate figures, derived from cavalry drill, are executed at the trot and canter to accompanying music. Commemorating the first appearance of the musical ride in Alberta during the Alberta RCMP centennial celebrations, July 24th, 1974.”
