Antique Wonder Rope Maker in excellent original operating condition. 4 hooks in outer circle twist and wind twine into separate coils that are joined together as a finished braided rope product tightened as operator continues to crank. The centre hook is used for a core of wire for extra strength. The “key'” is not a wrench but a specific tool for the Wonder Rope Maker to control the tension of the the twisted twine as the join to make the finished rope. 3 hooks are common. 4 hooks are more rare. The fifth hook is one of the last patents. “PATENT APPLIED FOR”. Dates pre-1911. Made for commercial use for ropes of all sizes and purposes…..from kids' skip ropes to cowboy accessories to mooring ropes for ships.

Comes with two samples of synthetic and natural fibre ropes. The Wonder rope maker was displayed at heritage s shows and demonstrations. Letting the kids make their own skipping ropes is a popular, educational interaction.
