Celestion Ditton 22 bookshelf speakers

Circa 1976, the Ditton 22's are a very desirable British made 3 way bass reflex speaker renown for its clarity, detail and warm, British sound.

These beautiful speakers will add to any decor and sound amazing! The clarity and imaging from these little 3 way bookshelf speakers will take your breath away. I have re-capped them with Solen yellow film caps, with the exception of the 60uf cap (which I used a Solen Electrolytic). Replacing the lower value caps in these vintage Celestions really makes a big difference. It sounds like a veil has been lifted from them. I have added proper driver gaskets to ensure an airtight cabinet.

These came to me in rough shape. The cabinets were separated and the previous owner had made some failed attempts to re-seal. I trimmed, glued and clamped over the course of a week to close up the seams. While not perfect, they are strong, sound and airtight! Refinishing the cabinets involved gently sanding to 320 grit. Real wood finish is so forgiving, so with some stain and wax finish they look pretty dam good! sound and beautiful. The wood grain is stunning!

All the drive units are original Celestion and function as new. Woofer and mid use a rubber surround that I have treated with rubber renu. The crossover operates at 500Hz and 3.0kHz. Unfortunately I do not have grills.

How do they sound?

I've had 3 sets of Ditton 22s over the years. Re-capping is a must for these. They have a beautiful sounding midrange that is supported by very strong bass and a magical upper range. Very detailed, great for jazz, horns, strings and female vocals. Surprisingly good with electronic music, folk, rock as well. All around, they do everything very well!
